High-volume hiring has quietly become the proving ground for applied AI. This spring we surveyed 200 talent acquisition leaders across retail, logistics, and hospitality about what is actually working. Three findings stood out.
Speed beats brand
78% of frontline candidates accept the first offer they receive. Employer brand still matters, but in this segment the fastest process wins the hire — full stop.
Candidates prefer chat to calls
Given the choice, 84% pick an asynchronous chat over a scheduled phone screen. The gap widens for shift workers, who often cannot take calls during business hours.
Automation moved from screening to scheduling
In 2024, AI budgets went to screening. In 2026, the growth is in interview scheduling and no-show reduction, where teams report the clearest ROI.
